The noble hoop pine is a constant in the Somerset Region, though they are sparsely populated compared to years gone by. At one time vast forests of these regal giants filled the ridges and vallyes of this place; now they mostly dwell in isolated stands by farm houses, churches and creeks. There are, however, some places around the lakes where there remain large stands of these fabulous, melancholic and nostalgic giants.
