Oil on Canvas, 2026 205 x 255mm What a beautiful sky that day—with the rosy glow of the setting sun and the icy coolness of the post storm cloud—as I drove out of Hazeldean toward the low climb into the southern valley of the Somerset lake. I like to make studies of interesting light, trying to capture temperature and hue. These smaller works inform my more imaginative larger pieces.

Sometimes this humming meditation on events and places can peel open memories and reveal thoughts and meaning. When you do a lot of solo driving, the open road is a magnetic cocoon for concentration and deep thought. *available
